When it comes to baking, timing is everything. For your Spiced Ginger Pear Muffins, monitoring the baking time is crucial to achieving that perfect texture. Generally, muffins should bake for about 18 to 22 minutes in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C). However, every oven is slightly different, so it’s essential to keep an eye on your muffins as they approach the end of the baking time.

Ingredients

1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

½ cup whole wheat flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

½ teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon ground ginger

½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

½ cup unsalted butter, melted

¾ cup brown sugar, packed

¼ cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup buttermilk

1 ½ cups ripe pears, peeled, cored, and diced

½ cup crystallized ginger, chopped

Optional: ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans for an extra crunch

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a muffin tin with paper liners or grease it lightly.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, ginger, and cinnamon until well combined.

Mix Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, mix the melted butter with brown sugar and granulated sugar until the mixture is smooth. Add the eggs one at a time, whisking well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract and buttermilk.

Combine Mixtures: Pour the wet ingredients into the bowl with the dry ingredients. Gently mix with a spatula until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; it’s okay if a few flour streaks remain.

Fold in Fruits and Nuts: Gently fold in the diced pears, chopped crystallized ginger, and optional nuts until evenly distributed throughout the batter.

Fill Muffin Tins: Divide the batter evenly among the prepared muffin cups, filling each about two-thirds full.

Bake: Place the muffin tin in the preheated oven and bake for 18-22 minutes, or until the muffins are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool: Remove the muffins from the oven and let them cool in the tin for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Serve: Enjoy these warm or at room temperature. They pair wonderfully with a cup of tea or coffee!
