Easy Lasagna with Ricotta Layers

9 lasagna noodles

2 cups ricotta cheese

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

2 cups marinara sauce (your choice of store-bought or homemade)

1 large egg

1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs (basil, oregano, thyme)

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions
 

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

    Cook the lasagna noodles in a large pot of salted boiling water for about 8-10 minutes or until they are al dente, then drain and set aside.

      In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, dried Italian herbs, salt, and pepper. Mix well until smooth.

        Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish to prevent sticking.

          Layer the lasagna as follows:

            - Place 3 cooked lasagna noodles over the sauce.

              - Spread half of the ricotta mixture over the noodles.

                - Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese on top.

                  - Add 1/3 of the marinara sauce over the cheese.

                    Repeat the layers:

                      - Lay down 3 more noodles, the remaining ricotta mixture, 1 cup of shredded mozzarella, and another 1/3 of the marinara sauce.

                        Top the lasagna with the final 3 noodles, the remaining marinara sauce, and sprinkle with the remaining shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese.

                          Cover the dish with aluminum foil (avoid touching the cheese) and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.

                            Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

                              Let it cool for about 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired.
