Ingredients

1 block (14 oz) firm tofu

4 tablespoons cornstarch

3 tablespoons vegetable oil (for frying)

4 cloves garlic, minced

2 tablespoons soy sauce

1 tablespoon rice vinegar

1 tablespoon honey or agave syrup

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)

1/4 cup sweet chili sauce (store-bought or homemade)

2 green onions, finely chopped (for garnish)

Sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Tofu:

    - Press the tofu to remove excess moisture. Wrap the tofu block in a clean kitchen towel or paper towels and place a heavy object on top for about 15-20 minutes.

      Cut and Season:

        - Once pressed, cut the tofu into 1-inch cubes. In a large bowl, toss the tofu cubes with soy sauce, making sure they are evenly coated.

          Coat with Cornstarch:

            - Sprinkle the cornstarch over the tofu cubes and gently toss again until each piece is well-coated. This step is crucial for achieving that crispy texture.

              Fry the Tofu:

                - Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the tofu cubes in a single layer. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy. You may need to do this in batches to avoid overcrowding the pan.

                  Make the Garlic Sauce:

                    - In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium and add the minced garlic. Sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

                      Combine and Glaze:

                        - Next, add the sweet chili sauce, rice vinegar, honey (or agave syrup), and red pepper flakes to the pan. Gently toss the crispy tofu in the sauce until well-coated and heated through, about 1-2 minutes.

                          Serve:

                            - Remove the skillet from heat and transfer the glazed tofu to a serving dish. Garnish with chopped green onions and a sprinkle of sesame seeds.

                              Enjoy:

                                - Serve the crispy garlic tofu warm, either on its own or with steamed rice or fresh salad as a side.
