Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

1 lb ground pork

1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably Italian style)

½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 large egg

1 tablespoon fresh basil, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried basil)

1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried parsley)

2-3 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)

1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Fresh basil leaves, for garnish

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper.

Mix the Meatball Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, chopped basil, chopped parsley, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Mix the ingredients gently with your hands until evenly combined.

Form the Meatballs: Roll the mixture into meatballs, about 1.5 inches in diameter. Place the meatballs on the prepared baking sheet, ensuring they are spaced out evenly to allow for even cooking.

Bake the Meatballs: Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the meatballs are browned and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 160°F or 70°C).

Prepare the Sauce: While the meatballs are baking, heat the marinara sauce gently in a saucepan over medium heat.

Assemble the Dish: Once the meatballs are done, remove them from the oven and place them in a baking dish. Pour the warm marinara sauce over the meatballs, ensuring they are well-covered.

Add Mozzarella: Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the top of the meatballs and marinara sauce.

Final Bake: Return the baking dish to the oven and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Serve: Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh basil leaves and serve warm. Enjoy your Neapolitan meatballs with spaghetti, crusty bread, or on their own!
