Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup whole milk, warmed

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 package (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 large egg

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and finely chopped (preferably Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1/3 cup brown sugar

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened (for filling)

1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)

1-2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)

Instructions

Activate Yeast: In a small bowl, combine the warmed milk and granulated sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

Make the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the melted butter, egg, vanilla extract, and the yeast mixture. Stir until a dough forms.

Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Prepare Filling: While the dough rises, in a separate bowl, mix the chopped apples, cinnamon, nutmeg, brown sugar, and softened butter until the apples are well coated.

Roll Out Dough: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a floured surface. Roll it out into a rectangle approximately 1/4-inch thick (about 12x18 inches).

Assemble the Rolls: Spread the apple mixture evenly over the rolled-out dough. Starting from one of the long sides, tightly roll the dough into a log. Pinch the seam to seal it.

Cut into Rolls: Using a sharp knife or dental floss, cut the log into 12 equal pieces. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, leaving a little space between each roll.

Second Rise: Cover the rolls with a clean cloth and let them rise again for about 30 minutes until puffed.

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Bake: After the second rise, bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes or until they are golden brown and cooked through.

Prepare Glaze: While the rolls are baking, whisk together the powdered sugar and 1-2 tablespoons of milk in a small bowl until smooth. Adjust the consistency to your liking by adding more milk, if needed.

Glaze the Rolls: Once the rolls are out of the oven, allow them to cool for 5 minutes. Drizzle the glaze over the warm rolls while they are still in the pan.

Serve: Enjoy the rolls warm or at room temperature, and savor the delightful combination of apples and cinnamon!
