Air Fryer Nacho Cheese Chickpeas

1 can (15 oz) of chickpeas (garbanzo beans), rinsed and drained

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1 teaspoon taco seasoning

1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust for spice preference)

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup nutritional yeast (for cheesy flavor)

Optional: fresh cilantro or chives for garnish

Prepare the Chickpeas: Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C). While it heats, thoroughly rinse and drain the chickpeas, then pat them dry with a kitchen towel to remove as much moisture as possible. This step ensures they get nice and crispy.

    Season the Chickpeas: In a large bowl, combine the dry seasonings: garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, taco seasoning, cayenne pepper, and salt. Add the olive oil to the bowl followed by the dried chickpeas. Toss well until all the chickpeas are evenly coated with the oil and spices.

      Add Nutritional Yeast: Sprinkle the nutritional yeast over the seasoned chickpeas and toss again until the chickpeas are nicely coated, giving them a cheesy flavor.

        Air Fry: Transfer the chickpeas to the air fryer basket in a single even layer. If you have a small air fryer, you may need to do this in batches. Air fry for 15-20 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through to ensure even cooking and crispiness.

          Check for Crispiness: At the 15-minute mark, check the chickpeas. You want them crispy and golden brown. If they need more time, continue frying for an additional 3-5 minutes.
